MESQUITE, Nev. — Police have identified the man accused of killing at least 50 people in a Las Vegas shooting rampage as Stephen Paddock, 64, a resident of Mesquite, Nev.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said officers determined the gunshots were coming from a room on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay complex on the Las Vegas Strip. Officers stormed the room and killed the suspect, Lombardo said.

"Right now, we believe it's a sole actor, a lone-wolf-type actor," Lombardo said. He said a motive for the shooting had not yet been determined.

A federal law enforcement official said a cache of weapons was found inside the hotel room where Paddock died, and investigators believe the suspect used the vantage point to fire on the crowd below gathered for an outdoor country music concert.

Police blocked off the road to the suspect's home in Mesquite, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Records show that Paddock resided at 1372 Babbling Brook Court in a house he purchased in 2015.

Paddock was not known to the federal authorities, but was known to local law enforcement, NBC News reported. Paddock had no known connection to terrorism.

Lombardo said law enforcement authorities had located a "person of interest" who he named as Marilou Danley, believed to be the suspect's roommate.

Lombardo said officers had located a Hyundai Tucson and a Chrysler Pacifica Touring, both with Nevada plates, which were registered to the dead suspect.
